PS: My favorite pie is lemon meringue. I have a very distinct memory of being kid crying about something on my back porch and the next door neighbor lady had just made a fresh lemon meringue pie. No more tears after that!

Family Fun this Fall at Central Market

by Chelsea Gilman, Business Manager

The weather has begun to cool slightly and there’s been rain in the air. Fall is creeping in, and one of my favorite projects to work on in the fall is coming up Saturday, Oct. 20, from 12-3pm: Creative Action’s 4th Annual Family Fun Day at Central Market North.

This year’s event is the I Spy Pie! and dessert pie is the theme for the bake off. The participating bakeries are:

Guests at the event will try the pies, alongside the following celebrity judges:

Pie-tasting tickets cost $5, which includes a taste of each pie and a voting ticket to help select the winner.

There will be live music from the Biscuit Brothers at noon and Jungle Jill and the Jaybirds at 2pm. Meet the bakeries and judges with MC Shana Merlin at 1pm.

Family activities will be available from 12-3 on the lawn, including:

  • Creative Action’s famous giant parachute
  • Face painting
  • Apron decorating
  • Chef’s hat decorating
  • A “pie” walk for prizes
  • Create pie puppets
  • And a help create a community craft pie with Peace Through Pies.

There will also be raffle tickets sold for an amazing Austin Staycation package of prizes.

Hope to see you on October 20!
