Summer Momentum

by Katie Grills, Community Relations AmeriCorps VISTA

My summers as a kid were never structured in the traditional sense: no camps, no sports, no classes, no extended vacations to faraway places. There were a number of reasons why—I had 2 parents that were home all summer, and I was a very curious, self-directed child who always wrote and completed a list of summer projects.

While this worked out for me, I do wonder what my summers would have been like if I got to spend them going to fun camps like those we offer here at Theatre Action Project (TAP).

I challenge you to sit down and create your own list of summer goals, and include at least one self-directed challenge to give back to your community.

Here are some of the ways that you can experience the joy of Summer through a child’s eyes with TAP:

  • Volunteer at one of our 4 Summer Camp locations. We are particularly in need of volunteers in the mornings during June. Fill out our application form to join us!
  • Volunteer to assist with Summer Pageant in the Park classroom programming
  • Help TAP construct large puppetry elements on Summer Pageant Build Days
  • Come into our offices to help us with various craft and data entry needs.

We’re so very thankful for all the help that all of our volunteers gave us this school year. Our community of volunteers has completed 1,415 hours of work for TAP, and the school year isn’t over yet.

Make it a priority this summer to give time to TAP.
