Changing Lives at “No Place for Hate” Conference

by Nitra Gutierrez, Middle School and High School Program Associate

Changing Lives has just had our first successful performance of the year!  Our newly formed group delivered the kickoff performance at the Anti-Defamation League’s No Place for Hate Conference.  Eighth grade ambassadors from Austin’s No Place for Hate Schools participated in a talkback after the show.  Students interacted with the performers and discussed issues in our piece such as stereotyping and the power dynamics that go hand in hand with labeling people.

The Changing Lives Youth Theatre Ensemble’s next public appearance will be at GenAustin’s We Are Girls Conference, November 12, 2011 at Austin High.

This year, I am thankful for finding the opportunity to do the work I love with people who are inspired to make their community a better place.
