Saturday Events

by Cassie Swayze, Afterschool Program Associate VISTA

There are quite a few TAP-tastic events around Austin this weekend! Not only are we hosting Cupcake-A-Doodle-Do at Central Market North on Saturday from 12-3PM, the 2011 Texas Book Festival is also this weekend at venues around downtown and the Capitol. There are a lot of amazing speakers and opportunities to hear some great children’s authors, including Rosemary Wells, author of Yoko and Yoko Writes Her Name, which are both Teaching Artist favorites from the TAP library. Another TAP favorite, Ten-Minute Puppets’ author, Noel MacNeal, and Sesame Street puppeteer, will make appearances throughout the weekend.

I don’t have a favorite cupcake but earlier this week Patrick Torres, our MS/HS Program Director, brought red velvet cupcakes with vanilla frosting to the TAP office. I have to say, they were TAP-tastic!

P.S. Tonight the Afterschool Alliance and afterschool programs across the nation celebrate Lights on Afterschool. Check out the map for different programs happening around the country.
