Cupcakes on the Mind

by Chelsea Gilman, Business and Development Associate

On Saturday, October 22, Theatre Action Project is holding our 3rd annual fall fundraiser at Central Market. In previous years, this event has always been a fun food and family event, with past events being called  “The Mac-N-Cheese Smackdown” and “The Kookie Cookie Cook-Off”. Both of these events were huge successes with over 3,000 people attending throughout the day.

Fun ranging from arts and crafts and live music from The Biscuit Brothers and Sara Hickman’s Family Time Rocks band to a magician, and delicious food tastings and competition featuring some of Austin’s finest chefs was just part of this family fun event. Every year competitors compete for fun prizes and past competitors have included chefs from Wink and Zoot, Lambert’s Downtown BBQ, and Hoover’s, and the bakeries Sugar Mama’s Bake Shop, Delish, Gooden Sweet, 1886 Café and Bakery, Central Market, and Central Market Cooking School.

This year we are taking on another different food with the theme being “Cupcake-A-Doodle-Do”. The day will include live musical performances, arts and crafts activities for the family, and more delicious tastings during this awesome cupcake competition.

While still a couple of months away, activities and bakeries for our event are already starting to come together.  With cupcakes having become so popular in Austin recently, we’re planning to have quite a tough (and tasty) competition! So mark your calendars for October 22nd and get ready to come out to Central Market for the “Cupcake-A-Doodle-Do!” We can’t wait to see you and we will keep you posted for more information throughout.

What are some of your favorite cupcake flavors? We would love to know!
