A Reflection on Our Volunteers

by: Kelly Schiller, Community Relations VISTA

Convio employees volunteering at TAP

As one of the go-to-gals for volunteer inquiries for Theatre Action Project, I’m amazed each and everyday how many phone calls and emails I receive from people eager to get involved. From the exhilarating creative outlets of after-school volunteering, to the one-time event support running relays with giant puppet heads, to sewing human-sized ant tunnels, to the ever-flowing piles of data-entry, there seems to be something for everyone. Natasha Freeman, one of our dedicated after-school and administrative volunteers, says she likes to counter the active volunteering with administrative support because she finds it meditative and calming. And of course we love her for it!

Volunteers are an integral part of our operations at TAP. Though most of their work is behind-the-scenes, they are the icing on the cake that makes TAP shine. Through the help of volunteers we are able to get involved with more events, work with larger class sizes, and have that many more fun and funky costumes and props for performances. We are delighted to hear that our volunteers not only feel good about how they help TAP succeed, but they also have an unforgettable experience in the process.

When one volunteer was asked what he has gained from working with TAP he shared,

“I have gained an immense amount of experience working, playing, and learning with all the kids–exercising communication, assessing teaching projects, and how to implement creative tactics to make enjoyable experiences.”

We are glad that our volunteers are able to receive not only an educational experience, but a fun and creative experience at the same time.  Thank you volunteers!
