Gearing Up for a TAP-Tastic Summer

by Brian C. Fahey, Program and Marketing Coordinator
As a staff member heavily involved with our summer camps I am constantly being asked: What makes TAP camps unique? Here in Austin there is certainly no dearth of creative arts programming for young people, especially over the summer months. So with all the choices out there for parents who want to send their child to a creative arts camp, why do so many parents choose TAP? Why do our campers return, year after year, to spend their summers with us? Three words come to mind: variety, creativity, and community.

Variety: Over eight weeks our campers will learn filmmaking, puppetry, dance, drumming, playmaking, and more. Every week is a different theme facilitated by professional artists that bring a specific skill set to the classroom. No matter what your child’s interests, we have a camp for them!

Creativity: Our camps thrive on the energy and creativity of our campers. The youth help shape the Friday performances and families are often amazed by what their children can accomplish in a week. Our Friday performances are no ordinary talent show–they showcase all the creative energy of our campers in a unique blend of music, art, theatre, dance and film.

Community: Perhaps more important than the skills that our campers will learn, is the community they will create. TAP Camps are all about team-work, raising self-confidence, and allowing our campers to express themselves artistically.

What sets TAP camps apart, in my opinion, is how truly child centered they are. Though we are teaching our campers artistic skills, our goal, first and foremost, is to foster their creativity and provide them an experience they will never forget.
Our camps begin in just 5 weeks. Is there a child in your life who would enjoy TAP summer camp? Help us spread the word!
