This years Big Kid Birthday Bash was jazzed up by the funky tunes of Sara Hickman and The Family Time Rocks Band. The tag line for the band being, “families that create together, do great together.” The set included their theme song “Funky Time Rocks,” as well as some songs created by Sara on the spot. “Theatre Action Project Yeah,” Sara’s tribute song to TAP, was certainly a favorite of the night.
The band includes Sara as well as the talented Jason Molin, and Gray Parsons. Sara, named the Official State Musician, her term starting in May 2010, wanted to make her year a pro-active one, choosing to get involved with organizations such as Theatre Action Project and Big Thought. Sara’s albums certainly do supplement our mission of encouraging youth to think and act creatively. By teaching youth critical life skills, through use of the creative arts, we are able to ignite social change in Austin communities.
Our Big Kid Birthday Bash raised us a whopping $45,000, which will help us bring our programs, like the Courage to Stand into more schools! A big Thank You to Sara Hickman and The Family Time Rocks Band for joining Theatre Action Project in our annual fundraiser. Check out their blog at: http://familytimerocks.com/.
