You know you want to wear a squirrel hat!

So where can you get one of these squirrel hats?! Come be a part of First Night Austin and “The Neighborhood Project”!

First Night Austin is Austin’s premier family-oriented New Years celebration and TAP will be there to help students celebrate both the arrival of 2010 and “The Neighborhood Project”.

“The Neighborhood Project” is a year- long initiative where young people and their families will explore and answer the questions: “Where do you find beauty in your neighborhood?” and “How can you improve your neighborhood?” as means to both celebrate and improve Austin. TAP is also reaching out to young people and their families through our after school programming and Family Fun Nights.

TAP is hosting Family Fun Nights at Brown, Wooten, Wooldridge, and Barrington Elementary where families will be translating what they have learned over the course of the project into a parade, complete with puppets, music, and banners, as part of First Night’s Grand Procession. They have focused on the food, art, architecture, and the natural landscape of our community.

Come march with us in the First Night Grand Procession on December 31st from 6pm to 7pm downtown! We have tons of great puppets…we just need some more hands and feet!! 🙂 Please email megan@theatreactionproject if you’re interested in participating!

We are also creating a mural out of re-claimed wood to reflect where Austinites all over the community find beauty in their neighborhood. Come make a tile for our mural this weekend! We’ll be at your local H-E-B from 12pm to 3pm, Saturday December 12th:

  • E. 7th & Pleasant Valley
  • William Cannon & I-35
  • Hancock Center
  • S. Congress & Oltorf
  • Lamar & Rundberg
  • North Central Market
  • South Central Market
  • 620 and 2222
  • Bee Caves Rd.
  • Slaughter and Escarpment

This is just a snap shot of the project, check out “The Neighborhood Project” website for more info and how to get involved!! Also, check out photos from last year’s parade!

About creativeactionaustin

We are based in Austin, Texas and reach more than 16,000 young people every year through our unique blend of theatre and education programs. Our programs expose young people to critical social problems and offer opportunities for them to creatively think about how they can be a part of solutions to these problems. Creative Action is a unique blend of art and education – for us, the two are intertwined. We believe that using the arts as a teaching method provides a fun, engaging and inspiring way to learn – it incorporates the whole mind and body.
